Synopsis

Growing up in a dysfunctional family and a neglectful school system, Žuža has become a rebellious teenager. She’s coping with drug use and self-harm. Although her world isn’t just gloom and doom. She tries to battle her unfortunate circumstances with whimsical humour and deep care for her friends. Daša, the new substitute school counsellor, begins to notice Žuža with growing curiosity.Žuža distrusts her in the beginning, but a strange connection begins to form. Daša becomes the first adult in Žuža’s life who isn’t afraid of her chaos and truly sees her. As substance abuse and daily violence close in from all sides, Žuža and her best friend Lena begin to lose their footing. When Lena dies from an overdose, Žuža’s already crumbling world collapses entirely.In her darkest moment, Žuža turns to Daša. A quiet alliance forms between two women from different generations, more alike than they dare to admit. When the previous counsellor returns from maternity leave, Daša must say goodbye. Though no longer part of Žuža’s daily life, their brief encounter has altered the course of their lives.


Director

Luka Marčetić is a Slovenian director recognized for his commercially successful projects, including the television series V dvoje and his feature comedy Pr' Hostar, which stands as the highest-grossing film in Slovenian cinema history. His self-written and self-directed feature Girl in the Night received the Cottbus Works in Progress Award and is currently awaiting theatrical release. He is scheduled to direct a new feature film from his own screenplay in the coming year.


Screenwriter

Urška Sajko got her master’s degree in screenplay writing in 2018. She wrote a debut feature film script, Super Serious, which received national funding and was included in a script workshop Scenarnica and MIDPOINT Slovenia. She co-wrote the animated film Mrs. Monster, which was selected for Rise&Shine and the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market. She also worked on an animated short, Witches, as a script doctor and is currently developing her live-action/animated short film titled Kitchen Appliances.


Producer

Darej Šömen is a Slovenian film and TV producer with over a decade of experience. He has produced reality and high-profile shows for Planet TV, including Married at First Sight (S4), Come Dine With Me (S2), and Fish on the Cake (three seasons). In film, he produced award- winning shorts and features like Ameba, Chasm, and Sheltered, and is developing projects including Bloodhands, The Sorrows of Young Hana, and How I F--ed Death.


Producer

Eva Tomazin Zevnik is a Slovenian film and TV producer with a master’s degree in Film and Television Production. She produced Anja Ganja (2017), which won Vesna award for Best Student Film, and for which she received the Prešeren Award of the Academy of Theatre, Film, Radio, and Television. She also produced the TV series LP, Lena (2018–2020), is executive producer on the feature film Kurentova luna and the TV series Pošast za železno zaveso.
